Keith Hill, MP for Streatham, is seeking local nominations for a competition to find the best South Asian restaurant in Britain.

The Tiffin Cup is an annual curry competition organised by MPs from all parties to applaud the quality of South Asian food, and raise money for charity. This year the competition is raising funds to support an orphanage in India.

MPs from across the country have been asked to nominate their favourite curry house in their constituency. Once the nominations are made, 10 entrants will be short-listed and invited to a special cook-in at the Houses of Parliament, where the overall winner for the UK will be found. The winning restaurant will get a year's supply of Cobra beer and the prestigious 2008 Tiffin Cup. Every national finalist will be commended. Last year’s winner was the Bekash restaurant of Romford, Essex.

Mr Hill is inviting constituents to send in their nominations for their favourite Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani restaurant in Streatham. Contacted details are available here.

Keith Hill said:

“There are some great South Asian restaurants in Streatham. I urge all you curry lovers to contact me with your favourites - the ones that you feel deserve greater acclaim - by Valentines Day, 14th February. I am sure that with such an esteemed award at stake, competition across the country is sure to be as hot as the curry."

The Tiffin Cup is awarded every year by the Tiffin Club of MPs, formed in 2006 by John Barrett MP, Michael Fabricant MP and Keith Vaz MP. The winner will be announced some time in 2008.
